| Bar Code Labels |
By now you are well acquainted with bar codes. They are found on many different types of products. You see the person behind the checkout counter in almost every store scanning bar coded products into the register. The result is a receipt that usually contains the item that was purchased along with the price. Clarity is key with all bar codes. It is vital that the bar code be legible so that the computer can read each individual bar. The bars can represent both numbers and letters and have no size limit. Some are short in length and some are long but all are designed with the same purpose. UPC-A is the most common bar code design found in supermarkets. This particular type of bar code indicates the type of product and the product manufacturer. The computer reads the bar code then locates the given product in its database and assigns the proper pricing. Each digit pertains to something. For example, on a UPC-A bar code the first number always symbolizes the product type. Other digits indicate the manufacturer of the product and there is one number dedicated to checking the accuracy of the bar code itself.
